Global onshore wind installations exceeded 100GW for the first-time last year, with Asia Pacific and Latin America posting records. Europe and Africa & Middle East also saw strong performances. While North America saw a 16% decline, due to the US slowdown.
AME forecasts that global onshore wind energy capacity will grow by 9.7% annually, reaching 102GW in 2024 and expanding to 110GW by 2026 driven by onshore wind's dominant role in total wind generation capacity and governments' emphasis on cleaning up the grid.     The growth of onshore wind development over the next two years will hinge primarily on China, Europe, and the US, which are expected to account for over 80% of total capacity additions from 2024 to 2026. China will continue to lead in the short term, contributing more than 60% of installations in 2024. However, Europe and the US will see accelerated installation rates from 2025 onwards, alongside emerging markets in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and MENA from 2026. By the end of the forecast period, global onshore wind markets will become more diversified, with nearly half of annual growth originating from markets outside of China.
